From Ceasefire to Liberation – the Canada-Wide Peace and Justice Network (CWPJN) stands in solidarity with Palestine

The Canada-Wide Peace and Justice Network (CWPJN) stands in solidarity with the heroic Palestinian people against Zionist Israeli genocide, alongside millions of justice-seeking people protesting worldwide. The war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel during all 470+ days of genocide, and over decades of brutal occupation of Palestine, have been committed with full political support, endless supplies of weapons and billions of dollars from the US government. All imperialist countries, including Canada, are complicit in supporting this genocide, as they support Israel politically, financially, and militarily.

The long-awaited ceasefire in Gaza, implemented on January 19, is a critical achievement for the Palestinian people on the road to liberation. The ceasefire is also a historic defeat for Zionist Israel. The Zionist regime failed to achieve any of the goals they declared following October 7, 2023, and most of all failed to break the resilience of the Palestinian people in their ongoing struggle for self-determination. From ceasefire to liberation, we continue to struggle in solidarity and defense of Palestine!

Since the ceasefire took effect, Zionist Israel has repeatedly violated the fragile ceasefire, including blocking the movement of Palestinians, shooting, killing and wounding Palestinians, and restricting aid deliveries. Two US private security contractors are now deploying armed guards to restrict Palestinian movement as they return to what is left of their homes.

US imperialism is responsible for the genocide of Palestinians and destruction of Gaza, from the 2000lb bombs provided to Israel by “Genocide Joe” Biden to now US President Trump stating that, “the US will take over the Gaza Strip” and forcibly displace all Palestinians from Gaza to neighbouring countries. Trump’s repeated comments, from his February 4, 2025 press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to his visit to Jordan on February 11, are an important call for the antiwar movement to not only defend Palestine from Zionist Israeli occupation and genocide, but also from US-facilitated ethnic cleansing and colonization.

Zionist Israel is now turning their genocidal actions to West Bank. Since January 21, Zionist Israel’s “Iron Wall” offensive in West Bank has killed at least 55 Palestinians as of February 4, including a 2-year-old girl, and has detained hundreds of Palestinians throughout the West Bank. Israeli Zionist forces continue to attack Jenin refugee camp and other towns and cities in the northern West Bank with airstrikes, drone bombings, sniper fire and burning and blowing up homes. Zionist Israel is razing roads and infrastructure throughout Jenin with bulldozers, and at least 26,000 of Jenin refugee camp’s residents have been displaced. The violence against Palestinians in West Bank is nothing new – 2023 was the deadliest year for Palestinians in West Bank on record – even prior to October 7, 2023. Zionist settler attacks and IDF raids and operations intensified after October 7, 2023, killing 905 Palestinians in West Bank as of February 7, 2025.

On February 7, 2025, the US State Department announced the sale of $6.75 billion in bombs and $660 million for 3000 Hellfire missiles, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency. This is on top of $22 billion in weapons that were sent from the US to Israel during 16 months of genocide.

The government of Canada is also supporting genocide. Weapons made in Canada continue to be sent to Israel, where they have been used against Palestinians. Canada also continues to act upon existing permits to manufacture and ship weapons to Israel, and continues to facilitate arms exports without permits through a loophole that allows military goods to be sent, unreported and unregulated, to Israel via the US. Furthermore, Canada is still purchasing weapons from Israel, which Zionist Israel markets as “battle-tested” on Palestinians, despite campaigns for a two-way arms embargo between Canada and Israel.

The government of Canada is breaking its own laws governing arms exports, as it continues to arm a state facing a genocide case in the International Court of Justice, with International Criminal Court arrest warrants out for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.

Despite unimaginable devastation, Palestinians continue to show they have hope and determination to achieve the liberation of Palestine. The world has seen the incredible images of tens of thousands of Palestinians joyfully returning to northern Gaza, despite knowing 9 out of 10 homes were destroyed. Social media feeds show videos of Palestinians cleaning and repairing homes, constructing wells, and setting up tents on the rubble of their homes, vowing to rebuild. With destroyed buildings as their backdrop, children perform the Palestinian dabke dance, holding tight to their rich culture. Makeshift classrooms under tarps with heroic teachers fight to maintain education for children in their second year without schooling. Palestinians have proven that US and Israeli bombs and missiles cannot break Palestinian’s heroic struggle for self-determination, justice and peace. As resilient as the olive trees nurtured by Palestinians for centuries, the struggle for Palestine will never die, and Palestine will never be defeated!

In the last 16 months, Zionist Israel and US imperialism have not limited their attacks to Palestinians. Israeli terrorist attacks, bombings and airstrikes killed over 4000 people in Lebanon. The Israeli regime continuously violates their ceasefire with Lebanon, and today Israeli troops continue to occupy southern Lebanon, shooting at and killing villagers who defiantly return to their homes. Israeli forces have carried out a land grab of Syria’s Golan Heights, and the Zionist regime is now building military outposts in occupied south-western Syria.

Peace and justice-loving people around the world are continuing to come out to the streets in protest, expressing their condemnation of the brutal, criminal, illegal and immoral occupation, war crimes and crimes against humanity that Israel and the US are committing daily against Palestinians in Gaza, West Bank and beyond.

The Canada-Wide Peace and Justice Network, connecting over 50 peace, antiwar and social justice organizations across Canada, joins the united efforts around the world that are continuing to stand for Palestine, from ceasefire to liberation. The CWPJN is an endorser of the Arms Embargo Now campaign based in Canada, the Mask Off Maersk campaign initiated by the Palestinian Youth Movement internationally, and the Protect Palestinian Children Now campaign initiated by Just Peace Advocates.

The CWPJN will continue to support campaigns, protests, and actions in solidarity with Palestine, and against genocide in Gaza. We aim to work in a united front across our network and with Palestine solidarity groups and peace-loving people across Canada and world-wide. We encourage actions to build solidarity with Palestine – including rallies, marches, pickets, banner drops, cultural and educational events, as well as reaching out to elected representatives, unions and other institutions.

Together we demand:

  • An immediate end to Zionist apartheid and an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestine.
  • Israel hands off West Bank and Jenin
  • End the siege on Gaza now
  • US/Israel out of Gaza now
  • No US colonization of Gaza
  • End the genocide against Palestinians – from Gaza to West Bank
  • Reinstate UNRWA and all humanitarian aid in Gaza
  • Boycott Israel
  • Arms Embargo Now – Canada/US Stop Arming Israel
  • Justice for Palestinians, and accountability for all responsible and complicit in genocide, from the Israeli regime to imperialist forces.
  • Canada: Prohibit Canadians from serving in the IDF and investigate Canadians in the IDF for war crimes
  • Release of all Palestinian prisoners
  • Right of Return for Palestinians
  • Self-determination for Palestine
